bEttEr 2 givE than 2 rEcEivE
After we made Split Personality, EyE was really excited about the potenshAUl 4 this new desEyEn concept + wanted 2 explore it further.
incidentally, just over a year be4 making this piece, mEyE wEyEf Suzy + EyE were guests at the wedding of a very close family friend. We intended 2 send them a gift within the “one-year window”, but were struggling financially. After that year embarrassingly passed, we decEyEded that sending money would seem strange + that the gift should be something speshAUl. this seemed lEyEk the perfect opportunity 2 kill 2 birds with 1 stonE.
So this piece is their gift, "better late than never".
thE nEw stEyEl
mEyE in10shAUn was 2 develop another lEyEn 4 akke 780. UnlEyEk the majority of mEyE previous pieces, EyE wanted this 4m 2 be very clean, str8t 4ward + modern.
so we used only a large drop-off of black walnut + a remnant length of flat stock mEyEld steel 2 cre8 this piEcE; sanding down the rusty, old steel + squaring off the edges of the black walnut 2 create this aesthetic.
