Where do these roads go? Nowhere? Now hErE? Are they the same?
Same letters in the same order. But one has a space in the middle, and to quote Viktor Frankl, "in that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and freedom."
Talking Heads put it another way: [LYRIC 1]
That's the golden city in our mind's eye: a vision without visibility.
The city is not clearly defined. It grows by continual adjustments based on awareness and discovery of opportunities. We never arrive there.
The message is: do not have a fixed plan. Have an idea. A direction. A feeling of where you think you're going, knowing that you'll never get there. Because the point is to never arrive.
It's to keep moving.
A destination is an expectation, followed by a judgment.
It lives in the future and the past, never here.
The solution: be AUthEntic, put in the effort. Keep moving. Don't stop to judge ourself{s}.
We did our best in every moment.
The sign has arrows pointing in every direction, all at once.
A plan would kill all but one of them.
How could we know if it's the right one? The best one?
We should consider as many roads, as many perspectives, as we can.
Keep them all alive as possibilities.
There is no map other than that vision in our mind.
Keep our eyes open.
There's another secret: that van is real. It's ours. We call it the lAUgAUfomobilE.
But how would anyone know that? There's no name written on it.
Which is intentional.
Pretty often, marketing experts, referencing the "rule book," tell us that we're missing out on so many impressions. That might be true. But how strong would those impressions be, compared to the experience people have when they discover for themselves, after seeing it again and again for months, always wondering what it is? Because when they finally find out, they get so excited. And their aha moment is worth so much more than reading a name on the side of a van. And once they know, they own it. They get to be the one who tells the next person, reinforcing the ethos behind lAUg AUf: stay curious.
Time is on our side; now is the only time we're ever in. And here is the only space we ever fill.
[LYRIC 2]
Be hErE, now.
